Inspirational is Future Tense

2 min read

I have been a follower of technology for nearly 3 decades; 18 of those years in the digital domain exploring technology led communication solutions for brands. In early 2000 with our Internet penetration at just about 0.5%, one was actually selling the medium on the basis of a potential future. The business itself was being nurtured and built as future facing. And that is something that has always inspired me.

During our engineering days, it was fascinating to learn how Internet was born and what it can do for you; but the medium was still at a premium in this part of the world. During the dotcom boom of late 1990s we were actually dabbling with some very interesting ideas. Some of them didn’t survive because they were far ahead of their time; given the rate of adoption that existed then. A decade later many of those ideas came back to life and have us addicted. As we speak there are many more such ideas being conceived and built. Ideas that will challenge the regular, technology that will alter our lives even more, data that will add to the matrix, gadgets that will clone us, pace of current becoming obsolete, etc.

The pace is inspirational. Take a close look at all technology innovations. When presented as a concept including Internet of Things(IoT), there is always some pessimism. However the pessimism is always challenged with some remarkable innovations and that too at a phenomenal pace. I remember having conversations as a student about “possibilities”. We used to have discussions about “what if?” technologies and the hope that we would be connected to it in some way or the other when it becomes a reality.

Think of it, holography was a theory in 1947! The rest is history.

Passive is dying. Active is becoming immersive. Screens are becoming intelligent. We are slowly reaching a world that is completely connected. This presents us endless opportunities to be disruptive in the way we communicate.

The future itself is very inspirational and its likely impact on brands and advertising makes it extremely potent.
